Syed Rasheeduddin Ahmed is a Certified Food Scientist and US food industry
consultant. In 2011, he worked at Kraft Foods USA and saved about 6 million
dollars annually in the cost of ingredients for Kraft BBQ Sauces. He was
responsible for bringing 50 million dollars in annual sales for developing Big N
Crusty Bagels for Kraft USA during his 5 years work at Kraft Foods from 1986 to
He is the founder and president of Muslim Consumer Group For Food Products.
He is educating Muslims throughout the world about Halal food ingredients and
products. He has been educating Muslims in the US since 1985. He wrote eight
editions of the Halal Food Book "A comprehensive List of Halal Food Products in
US Supermarkets" since 1991, whose latest edition was published in 2009. For
these eight editions of Halal food books, he researched 31 US supermarkets from
coast to coast.

Mr. Ahmed earned a B.Sc (Agriculture), M.Sc (Agriculture) in Horticulture from

He presented technical papers on Halal foods at the First International
Conference on Halal Food Control & Exhibition at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in Feb.
2012, at GMDES's Halal Conference in Istanbul, Turkey in September 2012. Other
presentations include KUIM in Malaysia in 2004 and at the International
Association for Food Protection Organization at Orlando, Florida in 2006.
He established the non-profit MCG organization while working for the US food
industry. He developed 18 new retail food products for supermarkets for various
food companies including 10 new products for Kraft Foods USA, 3 new products
for Nabisco, 4 new nutritional bars for MLO Products and one healthy Orchard
Fruits Nuts bar for the Starbucks coffee company. He worked for B. Heller, Prince
Macaroni, Domino's Pizza, General Foods, Kraft, Nabisco, Newly Wed Foods,
MLO Products. He has over 35 years of food industry experience including
product development, quality assurance, nutritional analysis and hands on
experience in food plants.

Non Food Product Ingredients:
1. FD&C yellow No. 5 or FD&C red No. 40 colors:
FD&C yellow No. 5 or FD&C red No. 40 are chemical dyes and they are Halal if
used in pure granular or powder form but if the FD&C colors are required to make
it in liquid form then a Halal solvent is needed to make liquid FD&C colors.
2. What are Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Butyl Alcohol, Lauryl and Oleyl
Alcohol used in Personal Care Products.
All above alcohol are not Ethyl Alcohol but they are fatty alcohol or fatty waxes
made from either animal fat such as pork fat or vegetable fat such as soy fat. Only
manufacturer will know the source of these ingredients. If any personal
care company says that no animal derived ingredients are used in their
products containing above alcohols it means they are obtained from vegetable
fat.
3. Glycerin:
Glycerin is a fat based ingredients used in foods and non food products. Since it
is a fat based ingredient so it is either obtained from animal fat such as pork or
beef or it is obtained from vegetable fat. Only vegetable fat based Glycerin is
Halal.
4. Sodium Tallowate:
Sodium Tallowate is made of Caustic Soda and animal fat from cattle.
5. Fragrance:
Fragrance is mostly made natural or artificial fragrance material and alcohol.
6. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate:
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is an organic compound used in cleaning and hygiene
products. It contains lauryl alcohol (not real alcohol) which is obtained from fat
source. It is Halal only if obtained from coconut fat.
