Urbanscapes is really excited to announce the latest round of artist additions to an already
massive two-day line up. Australian indie rockers The Last Dinosaurs bring a touch of Jurassic
charm to the festival, while Sydney based improvisatioanal audio-visual outfit The Wires
promise to bring the ‘oohs’ and the ‘aahs’. There’s gutsy a capella from the UK’s Black
Voices, while closer to home reality TV and YouTube sensation Asmidar demonstrates the
left turn creativity that Urbanscapes is renowned for.
Our arts line up continues to evolve and impress. Actorlympics is a who’s who of the Malaysia comedy scene, including legends like Patrick Teoh, Afdlin Shauki, Kuah Jenhan, Douglas Lim, Nell Ng and Rashid Salleh, collaborating to bring a touch of those ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway’ improvisational comedy shows to Urbanscapes. And while Urbanscapes is known for its vendors it’s never seen anything like Market of Experiences, a group of exhibitions and performance art installations that play with our notion of retail and society, featuring works by Norman The and Jia Ling Chew, Vikas Kailankaje and Mun Kao amongst others.
Gore fans should find time to check out Kult’s Real Horror Show. Curated by Singapore art gallery Kult 3D, the show includes a series of installation of monsters and ghouls created by some of South East Asia’s most gruesome illustrators, B-movie horror mantages and shockingly grabbing hands on experiences including moster face painting, t-shirt silk screening and a doodling workshop.
For electronica fans, stay tuned to Deer in the Park, curated by The Deer Society with a line up that includes veteran local stars like Flica, newbie sensations like Dangerdisko and Bass Sekolah as well as regional talents including Midnight Runners (Indonesia) and Bottlesmoker (Indonesia).
Fans of the old skool – this should make you smile. In an Urbanscapes exclusive, The Wknd Sessions hosts two of Malaysia’s most important indie music pioneers, Nice Stupid Playground and Damn Dirty Apes. It’s going to be an Urbanscapes to remember.

The Big Weekend
+++
Not many festivals give their fans the chance to unlock the secrets of their line-up, but that’s
exactly what Urbanscapes Festival 2013 – The Big Weekend – organised in August.
Thousands of the festival’s fans rose to the challenge of searching landmarks, boutiques and
creative spaces around the Klang Valley, deciphering the sometimes-cryptic clues to find the
hidden QR codes that would unlock the stars with a tweet.
Franz Ferdinand, Tegan & Sara, Two Door Cinema Club and Efterklang provide the
international highlights to a list of some of the world’s most exciting music and creative arts
talents. On Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th November they will be joined by dozens of local,
regional and international bands, musicians, comedians, sculptors, performance artists,
visual artists and other zeitgeist defying acts when Urbanscapes Festival 2013 – The Big
Weekend
– opens its doors at the Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) for a
weekend-long carousel of creativity and fun for all ages.
Urbanscapes Festival 2013 is supported by Malaysia Major Events, a division of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), an agency under Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism and Culture and other partners.

Explore Creativity
+++
The key to any festival is in building experiences that are unique to you and your friends. Set
amongst 12 acres of lawns, hills and gardens, this year The Big Weekend is all about creative
exploration. Music heads may want to stake out prime position at The Commons to watch
big names like Franz Ferdinand, Tegan and Sara, Two Door Cinema Club, They Will Kill Us All
and Kyoto Protocol. Others will be more at home in The Field, getting groovy with Deer
Society, laughing along with the Time Out Comedy Club and enjoying fun and interactive arts
sessions from Kakiseni, Curasian, TerryandTheCuz and more.
Lose yourself in the moment in The Woods, where some of our more experimental and
crowd-participatory acts will be coming out to play amongst the shade of this tree-lined hill.
The Venopian Solitude, Bihzhu and M.O.I.S.T. are among the eclectic music acts performing
in this imaginative wilderness and they will be joined by workshop and installation pieces by
The Wires, Studio Bikin and our exclusive Market of Experiences.
And for our most ‘out there’ musical experiences head over to The End of the Road where
you’ll find the Upfront Stage and a list of mind-boggling acts that includes a curated session
by arts and architecture collective allthatissolid and music from hotly tipped Australian indie
rockers Last Dinosaurs as well as Denmark’s Efterklang and locals including Pithati and The
Experience Brothers.
But the real point is, with over 100 artists and vendors appearing across the weekend, everyone who comes to Urbanscapes will experience a Big Weekend that is unique, unrepeatable and truly customized around their own choices. +++
Satellite Shows
+++
This year, for the first time, we’re asking you to start the Big Weekend early, and join us for a
series of exclusive Urbanscapes Satellite Shows. On October 31st we’re very pleased to
announce a line up of two incredible bands for you at KL Live. For their long-awaited return
to KL, we bring you the awesome cosmic post rock power of Explosions in the Sky. The
Texans are known for the catchy yet pure cinematic grandeur of their music, the band has an
enormous following in Malaysia. Loved the world over for their dynamic stage presence and
sheer intensity every show they play here becomes a huge occasion.
Joining them will be one of Denmark’s leading underground acts, the mighty Mew. Formed
in 1994 this trio have been labelled dream pop, shoegaze, indie, alt, post rock and even new
prog which simply shows how hard it is to categorise their sound. We agree with them, that
they’re ‘the world’s only indie stadium band’, as they make catchy and accessible off-kilter
pop that’s equally at home when you’re making Sunday breakfast as it in a heaving rock
venue.
Some people might think that Imperial is best but at Urbanscapes we’ve always preferred
Metric. Especially when Metric are the stars of our second Satellite Show on December 3rd
at KL Live. Over five albums the Canadian New Wave and synth pop influenced have built a
hardcore global fanbase, based around an incendiary reputation for their live shows and
festival performances. Accomplished crowd-pleasers, the band is also known for throwing
impromptu cover versions and other musical surprises into its live sets.
To help you make the most of your Urbanscapes experience, we’re offering a buy-one-see-all ticket in the shape of our All-Access Pass. These very limited tickets are available at RM397 and offer entry to Urbanscapes Festival and all Satellite Shows. Individual tickets for the shows are priced at RM177 (per show). Stay tuned to our social media channels for more Urbanscapes Satellite Show announcements.
Tickets are available from www.ticketpro.com.my as well as KL Live, Rock Corner, Victoria For the latest on Urbanscapes, be sure to check out www.urbanscapes.com.my and our Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/urbanscapes), Twitter (https://twitter.com/urbanscapes) and Instagram (@urbanscapes) channels.
